Route description

Maryland Route 387 begins about 250 ft (76 m) north of the junction of Ferry Point Road and Harness Creek Road to form Spa Road. Both roads serve residential communities on the South River in unincorporated Annapolis. MD 387 heads north as a two-lane road with a speed limit of 40 mph (64 km/h) through a suburban area. After passing Annapolis Middle School, the road encounters Old Forest Drive, which is unsigned Maryland Route 788A. MD 387 then intersects Forest Drive, which was part of Maryland Route 665 before that route was rolled back to the eastern end of Aris T. Allen Boulevard.

North of Forest Drive, MD 387 enters the city limits of Annapolis and becomes municipally-maintained and unsigned. The road continues north and intersects Hilltop Lane, which provides access to Truxton Park and the historic home Primrose Hill. After Hilltop Lane, the road expands to four lanes, with a center turn lane and two lanes southbound, and passes a series of apartment and townhouse complexes. MD 387 reduces to two lanes to cross Spa Creek, then expands again to a three-lane road with center turn lane. The road then enters a densely-populated residential area, passes St. Marys Cemetery, and meets its northern terminus at Westgate Circle, whose other legs are Maryland Route 450 (West Street) west toward Parole and east toward the Annapolis Historic District, and Maryland Route 435 (Taylor Avenue) to the north.

History

Maryland Route 387 was entirely paved by 1933.[2] The 1939 Maryland state highway map shows MD 387 assigned to its current length.[3]
